Guyana Amazon Warriors strengthened their hold on the top of the 2026 Caribbean Premier League standings with a six-wicket victory over defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders at Providence. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the decisive figure, returning 4 for 23 as TKR were restricted to 126 for 8 before Shai Hope’s unbeaten 42 guided the Warriors to 127 for 4 with eight balls remaining.
The result was Guyana’s eighth win in nine matches and their 100th victory in CPL history. It also confirmed top spot in the league phase ahead of the playoffs, while Trinbago’s seventh defeat meant the reigning champions finished last in the table and were eliminated.
After choosing to field, the Amazon Warriors made early inroads through Miraz. The Bangladesh all-rounder removed Colin Munro and TKR captain Nicholas Pooran with consecutive deliveries in the fifth over, disrupting the visitors after Munro had given them a brisk start with 26 from 16 balls. Miraz later dismissed Sunil Narine to complete his four-wicket haul, finishing with 4 for 23 from four overs at an economy rate of 5.75.
Justin Greaves provided the principal resistance for Trinbago with 35 from 37 deliveries, but wickets fell too regularly for the champions to build a competitive total. Shamar Joseph supported Miraz’s work with 2 for 27 as TKR ended on 126 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Guyana’s chase was controlled rather than explosive. Mavendra Dindyal and Glenn Phillips fell early, leaving the Warriors 36 for 2 in the seventh over, but Shai Hope steadied the innings. Hope remained unbeaten on 42 from 35 deliveries, striking one four and two sixes, while Shimron Hetmyer added 30 before departing at 85 for 3.
The win was completed in 18.4 overs despite the loss of Miraz late in the innings. It capped an outstanding individual night for the Bangladesh player, who contributed 2 from 14 balls as well as his match-defining bowling performance and was named Player of the Match.
Guyana entered the match already in a strong position, but the victory underlined their status as the side to beat in the playoffs. Miraz had only recently joined the squad as a replacement for Mohammad Nabi and has made an immediate impact, taking 3 for 13 on his CPL debut against Saint Lucia Kings before following it with this 4-for against Trinbago.
For TKR, the campaign ended in stark contrast to the expectations surrounding the defending champions. Three wins from nine matches and a final defeat to the league leaders left them at the foot of the standings, while Guyana move into the knockout phase with momentum, depth and a bowling attack capable of deciding low-scoring matches.
