Liverpool have another fitness concern ahead of Manchester City’s visit to Anfield on 11 October after Jérémy Jacquet missed France’s Nations League match against Belgium with a reported hamstring strain. The defender’s absence adds to uncertainty over Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, who had already returned from international duty with injuries.
According to reporting attributed to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Jacquet felt a strain in his hamstring before Monday’s match and was left out of France’s squad. Coverage described the omission as precautionary, rather than confirmation of a lengthy absence or a decision ruling him out of Liverpool’s next fixture.
Isak’s situation offers some grounds for optimism. The Sweden forward withdrew with a minor thigh problem, and national-team coach Graham Potter described it as “not a big one,” while explaining that the congested international schedule prevented him from continuing with the squad. His availability against City remained uncertain.
Gakpo’s ankle injury followed a heavy challenge during the Netherlands’ 2–1 victory over Serbia. He attempted to continue before being substituted early in the match and subsequently returned to Liverpool. The incident raised concerns about a possible spell on the sidelines, although the extent of the injury had not been officially confirmed in the cited reporting.
The attacking concerns are significant for Andoni Iraola’s side: Isak and Gakpo had scored five of Liverpool’s seven Premier League goals at the time of ESPN’s 30 September report. Their availability therefore matters as Liverpool prepare to resume domestic competition.
The City match begins a demanding period, with Liverpool facing nine games in 29 days after the international break. Further assessment of the injured players will determine the selection implications; the available evidence does not justify declaring Liverpool’s title ambitions over or describing the squad as almost entirely unavailable.
