Richarlison’s proposed move from Tottenham Hotspur to Vasco da Gama has collapsed, leaving the Brazil forward in limbo after a turbulent summer in north London.

Tottenham and Vasco were reported to have reached an agreement over a permanent transfer, but Richarlison and the Brazilian club could not agree personal terms before Brazil’s transfer window closed. The 29-year-old therefore remains a Tottenham player despite having been left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

The breakdown follows the collapse of a potential deadline-day return to Everton. Tottenham had explored a deal that could have seen Richarlison rejoin his former club while Iliman Ndiaye moved in the opposite direction, but the arrangement failed after Richarlison could not agree terms with Everton. Ndiaye later joined Manchester City.

Trabzonspor also made attempts to sign Richarlison after the English transfer deadline, but Tottenham rejected their offers before the Turkish window closed. The striker had reportedly agreed personal terms with the Turkish club, but no deal was completed.

Richarlison has not played for Spurs since their 3–0 defeat to Brentford in the opening match of the Premier League season. He was omitted from the league squad after informing the club that he wanted to leave, although Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said the decision to exclude the forward was not his alone.

“At the start of the season I spoke with him many times to convince him to stay, and he didn’t want to,” De Zerbi said. “I can’t go every day to pray for him to stay.”

The forward remains eligible for some cup competition, but De Zerbi has made clear that Richarlison is not currently part of his plans. “Nothing has changed,” the Spurs manager said before the Carabao Cup tie at Liverpool. “He will not play even if he’s available.”

Richarlison is now exploring legal options over the final year of his Tottenham contract. Reports indicate that he and his representatives have approached FIFA to examine whether the circumstances of his exclusion from the Premier League squad could provide grounds to seek an early termination. Any case would depend on FIFA’s regulations and would be assessed individually.

Since joining Tottenham from Everton in 2022, Richarlison has scored 32 goals in 134 appearances. With the Brazilian, Turkish and English transfer windows now closed, his immediate future remains unresolved as Tottenham and the player consider their next steps.
