Inter Milan recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat Udinese 5–3 at San Siro, preserving their perfect Serie A start and moving level with Roma at the top of the table on 12 points from four matches. The result set up a meeting between the joint leaders at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
Udinese stunned Inter with two goals in the opening 16 minutes. Republic of Ireland defender James Abankwah opened the scoring in the ninth minute, rising unmarked to head Unai Gómez’s cross into the top corner for his first Serie A goal. Jürgen Ekkelenkamp doubled the visitors’ lead seven minutes later, finishing from close range after Keinan Davis created the chance.
Inter responded before half-time. Carlos Augusto began the comeback in the 26th minute with a powerful left-footed strike from distance into the bottom corner, before Nicolò Barella made it 2–2 in the 35th minute with a finish from a tight angle.
The Nerazzurri took control after the interval. Marcus Thuram put Inter ahead in the 57th minute, Francesco Pio Esposito added a fourth in the 67th, and Ange-Yoan Bonny completed Inter’s run of five unanswered goals in the 79th minute. Udinese substitute Idrissa Gueye scored in stoppage time, but his effort only reduced the final margin.

Roma maintained their own flawless start by beating Torino 2–0 away. Donyell Malen scored in the 40th minute after Paulo Dybala intercepted a misplaced pass from Torino goalkeeper Lucas Perri; Malen’s first attempt was blocked, but he reacted to poke in the rebound. Niccolò Pisilli added the second in stoppage time.
Inter’s comeback illustrated their attacking depth and resilience, but it also exposed a defensive vulnerability that will concern Cristian Chivu ahead of the league’s first meeting of the season between the two pacesetters. Roma arrive in similarly strong form, having won four from four, while Inter will take confidence from producing five goals after such a difficult opening quarter-hour.
