Wrexham’s promotion ambitions have received an early boost from summer signing Danny Imray, who scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 1–1 draw with Watford. The 23-year-old joined from Crystal Palace in July on a four-year contract and became Phil Parkinson’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Imray equalised in the 23rd minute after good work from Kieffer Moore, with his effort taking a deflection before finding the net. The goal helped Wrexham recover from falling behind and earned them a point, although they remain without a win from their opening Championship fixtures.

The move for Imray was designed to strengthen Wrexham’s wing-back options. He spent last season on loan with Blackpool and West Bromwich Albion before making the permanent move to north Wales, where he can operate as either a full-back or right wing-back.

Imray is one of three significant additions made by Wrexham this summer. The club have also signed midfielder Ben Whiteman from Preston North End and goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland. The three arrivals have cost approximately £16 million combined, according to reporting, and are intended to improve a squad that finished seventh in the Championship last season—one win short of the play-offs.

Wrexham’s immediate objective is to establish themselves in the Championship rather than rely on last season’s finish. Chief executive Mike Williamson has said the club would like to make further additions before the transfer window closes on 1 September, although competition from larger clubs has made recruitment difficult.

The early return from Imray is encouraging, but one goal does not remove the wider pressure on Wrexham to improve their start. Parkinson’s side will need greater consistency in the coming weeks if they are to challenge near the top of the table and make another promotion push.
