Anders Dreyer scored twice—including an 82nd-minute equaliser—as San Diego FC drew 2-2 with Inter Miami at Nu Stadium, extending Miami’s MLS run to four successive draws. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez had overturned Dreyer’s early opener, but Inter Miami once again failed to protect a late lead.
Dreyer gave San Diego the lead in the 12th minute after latching onto a precise Jeppe Tverskov through ball and lifting his finish over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair. Messi responded in the 24th with a free kick from the right that travelled untouched through a crowded area and into the far corner. It was Messi’s 20th MLS goal of the season and his 101st in all competitions for Inter Miami.
Inter Miami appeared to have found the winner in the 74th minute. Rodrigo De Paul threaded a pass into Suárez, who finished first-time with his right foot for his 13th MLS regular-season goal of the campaign. But San Diego struck back eight minutes later, as Tverskov again supplied Dreyer with a ball over the Miami defensive line and the Danish forward finished confidently to complete his brace.
Inter Miami pushed hard for a stoppage-time winner, with Messi forcing goalkeeper CJ dos Santos into a late save, while St. Clair denied San Diego’s Kieran Sargeant at the other end in the final action. Miami finished with 19 shots to San Diego’s eight and had a narrow expected-goals advantage of 1.8 to 1.6, but manager Kily González was left concerned by the defensive lapses that allowed San Diego to twice exploit the space behind his back line.
The draw leaves Inter Miami on 46 points from 26 MLS matches, with a 12-4-10 record, and 11 points behind Eastern Conference leaders Nashville SC. San Diego, meanwhile, took an important point in its push for a playoff place, with Dreyer’s brace taking him to 11 league goals for the season.
