Barcelona confirmed that Gavi underwent keyhole arthroscopic surgery to address a medial meniscus injury in his right knee, which was sutured to preserve the tissue. The decision to proceed with the procedure came after the player completed intense sporting stress tests following an initial conservative course of treatment. The four-to-five-month recovery window ruled him out for the remainder of 2025, ensuring his return would wait until the new year. Injury issues haven’t been isolated to Gavi either; manager Hansi Flick also lost Fermin Lopez to a left leg muscle injury that sidelined him for around three weeks during a competitive stretch where Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 to stay two points behind Real Madrid after five Spanish league matches.
Beyond his medical rehabilitation, Gavi has dealt with frustration regarding internal squad dynamics at the club. The midfielder was left furious with Barcelona decision-makers for failing to push harder to retain La Masia academy graduate Dro Fernandez before his departure. Even though Dro was a direct positional rival for the central attacking midfield spot alongside Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez, Gavi actively advocated for his fellow academy product, with whom he shares an agent.
