Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign French forward Bradley Barcola in a deal worth up to £120 million. The proposed package includes more than £100 million guaranteed, with additional performance-related payments taking the total value higher. However, the transfer has not yet been fully completed, as the clubs continue to finalize the remaining details.
The breakthrough brings an end to months of difficult negotiations. PSG initially valued Barcola at around £145 million, but Liverpool were unwilling to meet that figure or break their own transfer record. The Premier League club instead structured a deal that would satisfy PSG while keeping the guaranteed fee below the French side’s original demands.
Barcola’s preference for a move to Anfield played an important role in the negotiations. The 23-year-old has reportedly made it clear that he does not want to extend his Paris contract, which currently has two years remaining. He was also left out of PSG’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Rennes.
The France international was one of PSG’s key attacking players last season, helping the club retain both the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League. His pace, direct running and ability to operate from either flank make him an attractive addition to Liverpool’s forward line.
The proposed transfer would represent another major investment in Liverpool’s attack. The club have already spent heavily on Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, while also strengthening the full-back positions with Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool have undergone a significant squad rebuild after the departures of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez. Barcola’s arrival would give the team another dynamic wide attacker and add competition across the forward line, although it could also affect the future of players such as Cody Gakpo, who has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
Liverpool’s spending comes as the club attempt to recover from an inconsistent start to the Premier League season. The team face a demanding fixture against Manchester City at Anfield this weekend, and Barcola’s potential arrival would provide an important boost as manager Arne Slot looks to improve Liverpool’s attacking production.
The transfer is progressing positively, but Barcola must still complete his medical and agree the final contractual details before the move can be formally confirmed. Until those steps are completed, the deal should be described as an agreement in principle rather than a finalized transfer.
