Manchester United linked with Van de Ven, but January exit reportedly unlikel

Manchester United have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven as a leading defensive target, but a January transfer appears unlikely. Reporting attributed to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke says the Netherlands international is happy at Spurs and does not intend to leave midway through the season.

The 25-year-old has been linked with United as they assess their defensive options, while Liverpool are also reported to retain an interest. However, those links do not establish that either club has submitted an offer or entered negotiations with Tottenham.

An earlier report suggested a potential transfer could cost £80 million–£90 million. That figure represents a reported industry estimate rather than an agreed valuation, and there is no evidence in the coverage of a record-breaking deal being completed.

Van de Ven’s relationship with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is described as an important factor in his decision to remain in north London. According to O’Rourke’s account, the defender had considered his future before De Zerbi’s appointment but subsequently committed to fresh terms in August.

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in August 2023, having previously developed at FC Volendam. Tottenham’s official profile highlights his speed and his established partnership with Cristian Romero—qualities that explain his standing at the club without implying that a move elsewhere is imminent.

For now, the story is one of reported interest rather than a transfer breakthrough. United may regard Van de Ven as an attractive target, but the available reporting points towards him remaining at Tottenham in January, not preparing to join a Premier League rival.
