Three New Faces Join Matildas as Cooney-Cross Misses Squad

Joe Montemurro has named three uncapped players in his 26-player Matildas squad for October’s international friendlies against Germany and Haiti.

Vålerenga midfielder Hana Lowry, Vancouver Rise defender Tori Tumeth and Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Courtney Newbon have all received their first senior call-ups. Lowry had previously been selected in 2024 but missed that camp after suffering an ACL injury shortly before her expected debut. The 23-year-old moved from Sydney FC to Norway earlier this year and has scored once and provided one assist in her first seven appearances for Vålerenga.

Tumeth has been rewarded for her form with Vancouver Rise in Canada’s Northern Super League, while Newbon joins the squad after an outstanding 2025–26 season with Melbourne Victory. Both players could make their Matildas debuts during the October window.

Montemurro has also recalled Charlotte Grant, Alexia Apostolakis and Daniela Galic. Alanna Kennedy and Charlize Rule are unavailable because of injuries, while Arsenal midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross has been left out as she continues her return to football. Montemurro said Cooney-Cross had considered returning for the October fixtures, but the decision was made that it was “a little bit too early.”

Australia will face Germany in Karlsruhe on October 9 before meeting Haiti in Chambly, France, on October 13. The fixtures form part of the Matildas’ preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
