Sunderland have submitted a loan offer for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish as they seek to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline. The proposal would reportedly see City continue paying part of the 30-year-old’s wages and include a route for Sunderland to make the move permanent next summer, when Grealish’s current contract expires.

Grealish is in the final year of his Manchester City contract and has made two substitute appearances so far this season. He began City’s opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on the bench, before Enzo Maresca introduced him during the second half of the 2–1 victory.

The winger spent last season on loan at Everton, making 22 appearances before a foot injury ended his campaign prematurely. Everton remain interested in bringing him back, but the club did not make his loan move permanent during the summer.

Sunderland’s offer comes as they prepare for a season that includes European football as well as domestic competition. Grealish would provide experience, ball retention and creativity in wide areas, although there is no agreement between the clubs yet and the player’s substantial wages remain an important factor in any potential deal.

Manchester City have left the door open to Grealish’s departure. Maresca has said the winger will receive opportunities if he deserves them, while club sources have indicated that staying at City, joining another club on loan or leaving permanently all remain possible before the transfer deadline on 1 September.
