Salford City has executed a major double announcement designed to transform its women’s football infrastructure, appointing former England international Jill Scott MBE as chief women’s football advisor alongside a landmark partnership agreement in principle with global insurer AIG. The dual developments represent a decisive step forward in the club’s wider strategy to expand its women’s football operation, construct robust pathways for local talent, and strengthen grassroots connections across Salford and Greater Manchester.
Scott, who earned 161 caps for England during an illustrious playing career crowned by lifting the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 trophy, steps into a pivotal technical role at the club. She’s tasked with directly shaping the technical programme for both the Salford City Lionesses senior setup and the club’s academy teams. Beyond technical oversight, Scott will actively support the ongoing development of players and coaching staff. Her appointment leverages her direct experience rising from grassroots football to the peak of the international game, establishing a clear blueprint to generate meaningful opportunities for aspiring young athletes throughout the region.
Running parallel to Scott’s arrival, the agreement in principle with AIG delivers substantial commercial and operational backing to the club’s overarching ambitions. The comprehensive arrangement encompasses front-of-shirt sponsorship, stadium naming rights, training kit branding and official financial services partner status. Crucially, the deal marks a historical milestone for Salford City: for the first time, all three of the club’s teams will share an identical front-of-shirt partner. To mark this unified era, the teams are set to debut a new kit featuring “AIG blue” during the current campaign.
Salford City co-owner Gary Neville expressed deep appreciation for the strategic alliance, emphasizing the transformative nature of the agreement for the club’s future. Neville noted that the club remains incredibly grateful to AIG for their commitment to Salford City and their investment in the Lionesses, highlighting the advantage of having the backing of a world-class brand that will stand right behind both the women’s and men’s teams in their next chapter. Echoing those sentiments, AIG president and chief executive Eric Andersen reaffirmed the global insurer’s pride in expanding its commitment to Salford City ahead of an exciting next stage of growth.
By combining elite technical guidance with unified corporate backing, Salford City has signaled a firm commitment to elevating its women’s program to new heights. The strategic alignment between grassroots development, academy pathways and commercial parity reflects a modernized blueprint for sustainable football growth. With Scott providing hands-on leadership and AIG offering long-term institutional support, the foundation is set for the Lionesses to expand their influence across Greater Manchester.
