Neto Returns to Juventus: Veteran Goalkeeper Rejoins Bianconeri on Free Transfer

Juventus have completed the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto, bringing the 38‑year‑old back to Turin on a free transfer until June 2027. Neto previously wore the Bianconeri shirt from 2015 to 2017, serving as backup to Gianluigi Buffon and featuring in the squad that reached the 2015 Champions League final, although he did not play in the match. His return comes after a serious anterior cruciate‑ligament injury to Kamil Grabara, which is expected to keep the Polish international out for four to seven months. With Guglielmo Vicario on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and the departures of Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin, Juventus needed an experienced hand to add depth to the goalkeeping department, and Neto’s familiarity with Serie A and the club’s defensive setup made him a logical choice.

Since leaving Juventus, Neto has amassed a varied résumé that includes spells at Fiorentina, Valencia, Barcelona, Arsenal, Bournemouth and, most recently, Botafogo in Brazil. While he never worked under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona—his tenure there was under Ernesto Valverde and later Quique Setién—he brings a wealth of experience from top‑flight football in Italy, Spain, England and Brazil. At Juventus he will provide competition and mentorship behind Vicario, rather than being installed as the undisputed first‑choice keeper.

The veteran’s contract, running to the summer of 2027, aligns with the club’s longer‑term planning for the position. Neto’s knowledge of the Italian game and his professionalism are expected to help stabilise a defence that has shown vulnerability in recent domestic and European outings. While the move does not guarantee a starting role, his presence offers Juventus a reliable option should Grabara’s recovery take longer than anticipated, and adds a seasoned voice to a relatively young squad as the team aims to regain its domestic dominance and make a deeper run in the Champions League.
