Málaga are considering a move for free-agent forward Anthony Martial after he was offered to the club, but no formal contract offer has yet been made. The 30-year-old French international has been without a club since leaving Monterrey in June and is eligible to sign outside the transfer window, which has prompted newly promoted La Liga side Málaga to explore his availability as they search for attacking reinforcements.
Martial’s representatives have been sounding out options in Europe, with two Ligue 1 clubs and Everton also linked at different points. He has rejected two French offers so far because they did not guarantee him a starting role, and he is understood to prefer a return to Spain or the Premier League. Málaga’s interest has been driven in part by the long-term injury to Julen Lobete, which has forced them to look at free agents to add depth up front.
According to Spanish reports, initial contact has taken place between Martial’s camp and Málaga, but discussions have not progressed into formal negotiations because there remains a gap between the player’s financial expectations and what the club can currently afford. Martial is said to be willing to make a significant economic effort to facilitate a deal and sees playing in La Liga again as a priority, having previously spent part of the 2021–22 season on loan at Sevilla.
Málaga’s current attacking options include forwards such as Julen Lobete (injured), Ferran Jutglà, Hugo González and others, but the squad has struggled for goals early in the season. Integrating a player of Martial’s profile would give the coaching staff another natural attacker, though any deal would depend on salary-cap space and the club’s ability to meet his wage demands without breaching La Liga’s financial rules.
At this stage, the situation is best described as serious consideration rather than an imminent signing. Málaga have been offered Martial and are evaluating the sporting and financial fit, while the player is keen on a Spanish return. A formal proposal could follow if both sides can bridge the wage gap, but as of now no official offer has been tabled and no agreement is in place.
