Messi delivered the corner from which Casemiro headed Miami’s equaliser in the 48th minute. Robert Lewandowski had given Chicago the lead in the first half, but Casemiro’s goal secured a point for Inter Miami in front of a club-record Soldier Field crowd of 63,094.

The assist was reported as Messi’s 423rd in competitive football, accompanying 927 official goals in 1,173 appearances. Those figures give him an average of approximately 1.15 goal contributions per match.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains ahead of Messi for total goals, with 979, but is reported to have 261 assists from 1,335 matches. That gives him 1,240 combined goal contributions, placing him 110 behind Messi on the reported totals.

Messi also reached 29 MLS goal contributions this season, with 18 goals and 11 assists. He became the first player in league history to record at least 29 goal contributions in three separate MLS campaigns.

The Chicago match extended Inter Miami’s unbeaten run but represented another dropped opportunity in the Eastern Conference race. Miami moved to 44 points, while Nashville remained nine points clear at the top of the standings.
