Karela United’s late win over Hearts of Oak boosts Nurudeen Amadu’s side before Kotoko trip

Karela United’s 1–0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale delivered one of the first major shocks of the 2026–27 Ghana Premier League season. Mohammed Zaidan scored in the 88th minute to end Hearts’ unbeaten start and give Karela a valuable three points on Matchday Four.

The result did not end Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten run; that occurred separately, when Aduana FC beat Kotoko 2–0 despite finishing with 10 players. Hearts, who began the weekend as league leaders, saw their own unbeaten start end against Karela.

Karela coach Nurudeen Amadu described the win as a timely morale boost before his side’s away match against Kotoko on 1 October. “It was very difficult,” Amadu said of the Hearts match, praising his opponents’ tactical approach and noting that a substitution had helped swing the contest.

Match context
The game was level at half-time, with Karela ultimately breaking through late. The result took Karela level with Hearts on seven points after four matches, pending the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Karela’s result and Aduana’s win over Kotoko reinforced the competitive start to the campaign, but it is too early to claim that either has shifted the league’s overall balance of power. Kotoko, Hearts and other established contenders remain at the beginning of a long domestic season.
