Jonathan David is set to leave Juventus for Atlético Madrid after the two clubs reached an agreement over an initial season-long loan for the Canadian international striker. David is travelling to Madrid to undergo his medical and complete the formalities of the move.
The deal includes a non-mandatory purchase option worth €25 million, which Atlético can activate when the loan ends in June 2027. Atlético will cover more than half of David’s salary during the loan period, while Juventus will pay the remainder.
A New Challenge in Spain
David’s move brings a swift conclusion to his difficult spell in Turin and gives Atlético an experienced attacking option for their domestic and European campaigns. The striker joined Juventus from Lille in 2025 and remains under contract with the Italian club until 2030.
Atlético had been searching for additional firepower before the transfer deadline, and David’s arrival gives manager Diego Simeone another proven forward. The Canadian has approved the move, allowing negotiations between the clubs to progress quickly.
David is also the latest member of Canada’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad to secure a high-profile move across Europe. His temporary switch to La Liga provides an opportunity to compete at the highest level while Atlético assess whether to make the transfer permanent.

David’s agreement forms part of a busy period of transfer activity in Spain. Real Madrid have agreed to sign Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella for a reported €55 million plus €5 million in potential add-ons. The defender is expected to sign a six-year contract.
Cucurella joins a Real Madrid squad that has also added Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva during the summer window.
Barcelona are also finalising the signing of Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian is expected to join for an initial €10 million, with a further €4.5 million available in potential add-ons.
