Horsham Dismiss Walton & Hersham with Late Three-Goal Surge in FA Cup

Horsham produced a professional performance to defeat Walton & Hersham 3–0 in the FA Cup second qualifying round and secure their place in the third qualifying round.

The visitors were made to work for the victory at the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub, with Walton & Hersham threatening during the opening stages. Horsham goalkeeper Michael Dike, who had joined on a short-term loan, made two important saves to keep the hosts at bay and preserve a goalless scoreline.

Horsham finally broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute. Harvey Sparks supplied a precise cutback, allowing Charlie Hester-Cook to finish and put the visitors ahead.

Hester-Cook then turned provider three minutes later, delivering a cross that Jamie Yila converted with a superb volley to make it 2–0. Daniel Ajakaiye completed the scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time, adding a third goal and putting the result beyond doubt.

The result sent Horsham into the third qualifying round, where they were drawn away to Plymouth Parkway. Manager Dominic Di Paola praised his players for maintaining their discipline and avoiding a potential cup upset against a determined Walton & Hersham side.

Horsham’s next scheduled fixture is a National League South trip to Chelmsford City on Saturday, September 26. The club will then host Newhaven in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday.
