Gary Neville Predicts United Must Triumph Over Disarray‑Riddled Fulham

Gary Neville has predicted that Manchester United will beat Fulham 2–1 at Craven Cottage on Sunday, but he described the fixture as a major pressure test for Michael Carrick. His view is that United are fortunate to face a Fulham side he believes is in even greater disarray.

United have lost their last two matches: 1–0 to Manchester City in the derby and 3–2 to Brighton after surrendering a two-goal lead in the Carabao Cup. The Brighton defeat eliminated them in the third round for a second consecutive season and intensified questions about Carrick’s management.

Neville made his prediction on *The Overlap*:

> “United will win this. I think United win Sunday… having watched Fulham a couple of times, I think they’re really going to struggle… I think 2–1.”

His confidence is based less on United’s own form than on his assessment of Fulham. The Cottagers have taken only one point from their first four league matches, drawing 0–0 with Liverpool, and Neville said that “everything” about their early performances suggested they could be in serious trouble.

The match is especially important for Carrick because United’s opening results have fallen below expectations despite a relatively favourable fixture sequence. Neville has already called the Fulham trip a “real pressure game” after criticising United’s failure to defeat 10-man Manchester City.

Neville’s prediction should be treated as pundit opinion rather than an objective forecast. United’s recent defensive collapse against Brighton means Fulham will have reason to believe they can exploit uncertainty, while United need to demonstrate that they can protect a lead, manage difficult passages and respond to setbacks. A defeat would leave Carrick under considerably greater scrutiny heading into the international break.
