Erling Haaland Leads Premier League Golden Boot Race as Joao Pedro and Early Contenders Keep Pace

Manchester City continue to lead the Premier League following the competition’s recent resumption, with Erling Haaland leading the race for the 2026-27 Golden Boot. The Norwegian striker extended his advantage at the top of the scoring charts by finding the net in a 3-0 victory over Liverpool. He didn’t stop there, adding two more goals on Saturday, October 17, as Manchester City defeated Ipswich. Having already collected three Golden Boots in four years since arriving in England, Haaland’s early surge has seen him register six goals in six outings this season.

Haaland isn’t establishing a solitary lead without firm competition, as Chelsea forward Joao Pedro stays hot on his heels. Joao Pedro has enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign, accumulating five goals and three assists to sit just one goal behind the Norwegian leader. Chelsea’s frontline has also drawn significant power from Morgan Rogers, who has tallied four goals and one assist. In Manchester City’s ranks, Rayan Cherki has made a similar impact with four goals and two assists, while Liverpool forward Alexander Isak remains well in the mix with four goals from five appearances.

The opening six matches of the season have produced a widespread distribution of goals, with 15 players across various clubs reaching at least three goals. Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross has notched three goals alongside three assists, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Brentford’s Kevin Schade have also hit the three-goal mark. Manchester United striker Benjamin Šeško and Liverpool’s Isak are both slated to increase their numbers as the season progresses. At the same time, Brentford striker Igor Thiago, Leeds United target man Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Bournemouth rising star Junior Kroupi are working to rediscover the scoring rhythm that defined their previous campaigns.

The current Golden Boot chase comes on the heels of a prolific prior campaign where Haaland claimed top honors with 27 goals and eight assists in 35 matches. He was pursued by Brentford’s Igor Thiago, who struck 22 goals, while Antoine Semenyo registered 17 goals across his spells with Bournemouth and Manchester City. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins delivered 16 goals, with Joao Pedro and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White finishing tied on 15 goals. All of today’s contenders are chasing the lofty historical benchmarks set by the Premier League’s top all-time goalscorers: Alan Shearer with 260 goals in 441 matches, Harry Kane with 213 goals in 320 matches, and Wayne Rooney with 208 goals in 491 matches.
