Borussia Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal second-round tie against Werder Bremen has been scheduled for Tuesday, 27 October, with kick-off at 20:45 CET at Signal Iduna Park. The German Football Association confirmed the full timetable for the 16 second-round fixtures after the draw, which was conducted at the German Football Museum in Dortmund by World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger. The meeting brings two of German football’s most familiar cup rivals together in Westphalia, with a place in the last 16 at stake.
Dortmund and Bremen have shared a finely balanced DFB-Pokal history, winning four matches each across their previous eight meetings in the competition. Dortmund famously beat Werder 4-1 in the 1989 final in Berlin, while Bremen have proven a difficult recent cup opponent, winning on penalties in Dortmund in the 2018–19 round of 16 before recording a 3-2 win at the Weserstadion in February 2020.
Both clubs booked their places in the second round with emphatic away victories. Dortmund began their cup campaign by beating fifth-tier HEBC 5-0, while Werder Bremen secured progression with a 3-0 win over Lüneburger SK Hansa.
The Dortmund-Bremen clash headlines Tuesday’s late programme, with three other fixtures also scheduled for 20:45 CET: 1. FC Köln host Union Berlin, Borussia Mönchengladbach face Karlsruher SC, and SV Elversberg welcome SV Darmstadt 98. Earlier that evening, at 18:00 CET, VfL Bochum play Mainz 05, SG Sonnenhof Großaspach face Augsburg, Rot-Weiss Essen host RB Leipzig, and Hamburger SV meet Eintracht Frankfurt.
The remaining eight second-round ties take place on Wednesday, 28 October. Dynamo Dresden host Schalke 04, SSV Jeddeloh II face Hertha BSC, SC Paderborn welcome VfB Stuttgart, and SC Freiburg meet VfL Wolfsburg in the early slot. Bayern Munich host 1. FC Magdeburg, Bayer Leverkusen face 1. FC Nürnberg, Holstein Kiel play TSG Hoffenheim, and Hannover 96 host 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the late fixtures.
Dortmund’s meeting with Bremen will be broadcast live in Germany on Sky and ZDF, adding further attention to one of the standout fixtures of the round.
