Chelsea Set Sights on Crystal Palace Midfielder Adam Wharton for January

Chelsea have identified Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as a potential January target as they assess options to strengthen their midfield.

Wharton has emerged as one of the club’s primary targets, with Chelsea reportedly considering him alongside Feyenoord midfielder Gjivai Zechiël. The interest is not yet a formal bid, and Palace would be under no immediate pressure to sell, with Wharton’s current contract running until 2029.

Chelsea’s interest comes as the club reviews its midfield options, including possible alternatives to Enzo Fernández. Wharton’s composure, passing range and ability to operate centrally have made him an attractive candidate for a move within the Premier League.

Any January deal would likely be expensive. Reports suggest Palace could demand a fee approaching or exceeding £80 million, while one estimate placed Wharton’s potential price below €95 million. The figures remain speculative, and neither club has confirmed negotiations.

Chelsea have already agreed a future deal for Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. The 18-year-old will spend the 2026–27 season on loan at Crystal Palace before joining Chelsea permanently in 2027 in a transfer worth up to £40 million.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has also been linked with Chelsea, suggesting that the club is considering several options rather than focusing exclusively on Wharton. The January window will determine whether Chelsea turn their reported interest into a formal approach.
