Brentford produced a dominant second-half display to beat Chelsea 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium, exposing Xabi Alonso’s side to a third consecutive league defeat and extending their Premier League clean-sheet drought to 21 games.
The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Jaidon Anthony headed home from close range after Jannik Schuster met Mikkel Damsgaard’s corner and nodded the ball across goal. It was Anthony’s first senior goal for Brentford, and he later described the moment as an “unbelievable feeling” after a tightly contested first half.
Chelsea pushed for an equaliser and shifted to a back four, but Brentford’s discipline and counter-attacking threat grew. In the 83rd minute, Kevin Schade broke through and forced a save from Emiliano Martínez; the rebound fell to Igor Thiago, who tapped in to end a seven-game goal drought. With virtually the last kick, Fábio Carvalho completed the scoring, turning in another Schade cross at the far post for his first Premier League goal since returning from a long-term injury.
The result lifted Brentford to third in the table and marked their first home league win over Chelsea since 1938. For Alonso, the defeat underlined persistent defensive issues: Chelsea have now conceded at least two goals in each of their first five league games (12 in total), with Anthony’s opener the sixth goal they have allowed from a set-piece this season.
