Bibiano Fernandes Appointed India U-15 Head Coach for Inaugural FIFA World Cup & Festival in Azerbaijan

The All India Football Federation has appointed Bibiano Fernandes as the head coach of the India Under-15 national team for the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026, which will take place later this year in Azerbaijan. The former India U-17 coach was the primary choice of the technical committee, and his selection was formally approved by the executive committee. Minerva Academy owner Ranjit Bajaj was named as team manager for the campaign, although reports indicate that Fernandes had reservations regarding Bajaj’s role as manager.

The upcoming tournament in Azerbaijan will mark a historic occasion for global youth football, featuring all 211 FIFA member associations. The competition will be played under an eight-a-side format, with matches structured into two 20-minute halves. Squad sizes are strictly limited, allowing each country to register 14 players, which includes up to two goalkeepers.

Fernandes steps into the role with a established reputation, having previously built successful national youth football setups that secured titles at both national and international levels. As preparations begin for the showcase in Azerbaijan, the coaching staff will focus on adapting the squad to the fast-paced, small-sided format as India prepares to compete on the new global stage.
