Alisson’s Liverpool future remains unresolved as Juventus weigh renewed interest

Alisson Becker’s long-term future at Liverpool remains uncertain, with Juventus reportedly considering a renewed approach for the Brazil international. The Italian club pursued him earlier in 2026, and reports suggested personal terms had been discussed, but no transfer materialised. As of 5 October, there was no confirmed departure or evidence that only administrative formalities remained.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper remains under contract at Anfield until June 2027 after Liverpool exercised an option to extend his agreement. That decision secured his services for the 2026–27 campaign, but a further deal would be required to keep him beyond the end of the season. Reporting in September indicated that formal renewal discussions had not yet begun, leaving his longer-term position open.

Juventus’ interest centres on the possibility of signing an experienced goalkeeper without a transfer fee next summer. Reports from Italy suggest head coach Luciano Spalletti and sporting executive Ricky Massara, who know Alisson from his time at Roma, regard him as a potential recruitment opportunity. However, his salary would reportedly need to be reduced for a deal to become realistic.

The earlier negotiations require careful distinction from the present situation. In April and May, reports claimed Alisson had verbally agreed personal terms on a possible return to Serie A, including a proposed three-year contract. Those reports also made clear that an agreement with Liverpool was still necessary. The absence of a completed transfer means they cannot be presented in October as confirmation that his departure is imminent.

For Liverpool, the issue is succession planning rather than an immediate vacancy. Alisson remains first choice and an important member of the leadership group under Andoni Iraola, having been named among the club’s vice-captains for the 2026–27 season. Any decision about his future must therefore balance his continuing contribution with the club’s longer-term goalkeeping plans.

Juventus would gain substantial experience if a move eventually materialised, but that remains a possibility rather than a settled outcome. Their renewed interest does not establish that Liverpool have agreed to release him, that Alisson has committed to leaving or that the clubs are close to finalising a transfer.

The coming months will determine whether Liverpool open negotiations over a new contract or whether Juventus’ interest develops into a concrete proposal. For now, Alisson remains a Liverpool player whose agreement runs until June 2027. His future is unresolved—not in its final administrative stages—and any assessment of a potential move must reflect that distinction.
