Myles Lewis-Skelly names shock Tottenham player as toughest Premier League opponent amidst Manchester United transfer interest

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly has named Tottenham midfielder Matheus Fernandes as the toughest Premier League opponent he has faced, although Fernandes was playing for West Ham when the two players met. Lewis-Skelly revealed the answer during an interview with Men in Blazers, offering an unexpected choice from a North London rival’s current squad.

The 19-year-old’s comments come after a summer in which his Arsenal future attracted significant transfer speculation. Manchester United were reported to be exploring a move for the England international as they considered adding competition at left-back, while Chelsea were also linked with interest. However, both clubs ultimately declined opportunities to pursue a deal, and Lewis-Skelly remained at Arsenal after discussions with manager Mikel Arteta.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere had urged Lewis-Skelly to stay at the club and fight for his place. Wilshere, who previously worked with the defender in Arsenal’s academy, praised his character and development and said he believed Lewis-Skelly was good enough to establish himself in the first team.

The transfer discussion formed part of an active summer for Arsenal, who continued to strengthen their squad while also investing in young talent. However, claims about a specific new approach or imminent Manchester United bid should be treated as outdated or unconfirmed: the latest available reporting indicates that Lewis-Skelly stayed at Arsenal and that United did not proceed with a transfer.

Bukayo Saka has also praised Arsenal academy prospect Max Dowman, describing the 16-year-old’s talent as “insane” while stressing that the teenager must decide how far he wants to go in football. Dowman has already made Premier League history as the competition’s youngest goalscorer and continues to attract attention during his rapid rise.
