Mikel Arteta Agrees New Arsenal Contract to Drive Pursuit of Serial Silverware

Mikel Arteta has agreed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, cementing his future at the Emirates Stadium after guiding the club back to the summit of English football. The 44-year-old manager had entered the final year of the three-year contract he signed in September 2024, which was due to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.

Securing Arteta’s signature had been framed as a priority by Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke following last season’s title success, reflecting the club’s belief that it remains in the best possible hands. Arteta is now the longest-serving manager across England’s top four divisions, and his focus turns to building a lasting legacy and transforming the reigning Premier League champions into serial winners.

When Arteta took charge in December 2019, Arsenal were 10th in the Premier League and enduring a period of drift. Over the past seven years, he has overseen a transformation across the club, re-establishing the Gunners among Europe’s elite.

After three successive second-place finishes, Arteta led Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season. The triumph was Arsenal’s 14th English league championship and their fourth of the Premier League era.

Arteta’s long-term commitment gives him the opportunity to pursue an even more exclusive group of managers by winning multiple Premier League titles. Sir Alex Ferguson, Pep Guardiola, José Mourinho and Arsène Wenger are among the elite managers to have won the competition more than once.

While domestic glory was secured last term, Arsenal also came agonisingly close to Champions League success. The club reached only the second European Cup or Champions League final in its history, drawing 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain after extra time before losing 4-3 on penalties. Gabriel Magalhães missed the decisive spot-kick as PSG retained the trophy.

Arteta’s Arsenal trophy cabinet already includes the 2020 FA Cup, the 2025-26 Premier League title and three Community Shields. The club also began this season by defeating Manchester City 3-0 in the 2026 Community Shield.

The new agreement is expected to include a substantial pay increase and could extend Arteta’s stay beyond a decade, although Arsenal have not confirmed the precise terms. The manager’s backroom team are also expected to agree new contracts, reinforcing the continuity around a project that has restored Arsenal’s status at the top of the English game.

With his future agreed, Arteta’s task is no longer simply to restore Arsenal’s competitiveness. The aim is to sustain it. Arsenal now have the platform, stability and managerial continuity to pursue further Premier League titles and finally challenge for the Champions League trophy that narrowly eluded them last season.
