Florian Wirtz future clear as Liverpool outline plan amidst Bayern Munich interest and transfer push

Liverpool have no intention of parting ways with Florian Wirtz, with the club continuing to back the Germany international to rediscover his best form under manager Andoni Iraola. Speculation surrounding a possible return to the Bundesliga has intensified, but Bayern Munich’s interest has not developed into an active move for the playmaker.

Liverpool invested around £116 million to bring Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, with the intention of making him the creative focal point of their midfield. While his transition to English football has not been entirely seamless, the Anfield hierarchy have not lost faith in the 23-year-old.

Questions have surfaced over whether Wirtz has reached the expected level following such a significant financial outlay. Life on Merseyside has presented a steeper learning curve than many anticipated, but Liverpool are not actively looking to sell their marquee signing. Their priority remains to give the midfielder the tactical framework, confidence and consistent minutes required to establish himself in Iraola’s system.

Iraola has publicly defended Wirtz amid criticism of his early-season form. The Liverpool manager has stressed that he is not solely focused on goals and assists, instead placing importance on the player’s wider contribution to the team’s performance.

> “I am not too focused about numbers,” Iraola said. “Nowadays everything is about numbers—everyone tells players you have to assist, you have to score goals. For me, you have to help us play well.”

Bayern remain admirers of Wirtz and could monitor his situation as the season develops, particularly if circumstances change at Anfield. However, there is no indication that Liverpool are prepared to entertain offers in the near future, while no deal is currently under active consideration.

Liverpool’s stance is clear: Wirtz remains an important part of the squad and the club do not intend to make a knee-jerk decision based on a difficult start. The focus is on helping the German international adapt fully to the Premier League and recapture the form that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after attacking midfielders.
