Official! Luis de la Fuente Renews Contract with Spain National Team — All the Details

Luis de la Fuente has officially extended his contract as Spain head coach through 2032—not merely through the 2030 World Cup. The RFEF board unanimously approved the six-year extension on 21 September, securing continuity after Spain’s Nations League, Euro 2024 and 2026 World Cup successes.

Why the extension matters
De la Fuente, 65, took over Spain’s senior men’s team in December 2022. His tenure has produced a Nations League title, Spain’s fourth European Championship in 2024 and the country’s 2026 World Cup triumph. The renewed agreement gives him a full additional cycle to defend the World Cup title when Spain hosts the 2030 tournament and then lead the side into Euro 2032.

The RFEF’s decision is therefore a long-term endorsement of the existing sporting project rather than a short extension. It preserves the coaching structure through three major tournaments and allows Spain to plan its next generation of players under the same manager who oversaw the recent run of international trophies.
