Barcelona Secure Future With Raphinha, Bernal and Espart Contract Extensions

Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed that the club has agreed contract extensions with captain Raphinha and La Masia graduates Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart, securing three key pieces of their core for the long term.

Raphinha will extend his stay until June 2030, adding two years to his current deal which runs to 2028. The 29-year-old has made a blistering start to the season, scoring 12 goals in seven La Liga matches and 14 in eight games in all competitions, often operating as the central striker in Hansi Flick’s system. Deco announced the agreement at Barcelona’s ordinary general assembly, saying the deal is effectively done and will be formalised soon.

Marc Bernal, 19, has agreed in principle to a new contract until June 2031. The midfielder, who recovered from a serious knee injury last season, has established himself as a regular rotational option alongside Pedri and Gavi in Flick’s midfield. Deco said the extension is a reward for his development and importance to the project.

Xavi Espart, also 19, will extend until 2030 after a breakthrough campaign at left-back and in midfield. He started Barcelona’s first five La Liga matches, contributing a goal against Levante and two assists, and has been a consistent presence in Flick’s early line-ups. Fabrizio Romano reported that an agreement is in place and an official announcement is expected shortly.

The renewals follow recent extensions for Ronald Araújo and Gerard Martín and underline Barcelona’s strategy of blending homegrown talent with established stars. By locking down Raphinha, Bernal and Espart, the club has stabilised its spine and reinforced its commitment to a long-term, academy-led model as they compete on multiple fronts.
