Mohamed Salah produced a sensational hat-trick and an assist as Trabzonspor thrashed defending champions Galatasaray 4-0 at Papara Park, handing the Istanbul side their first defeat of the Turkish Super Lig season.

Salah opened the scoring in the fourth minute, racing clear to finish past Ugurcan Çakir, then turned provider in the 39th minute, laying off Noah Saviolo for a curling second. He grabbed his second goal in the 44th minute after Davinson Sanchez was dispossessed, and completed his treble in the 80th with another trademark run and side-foot finish. It was his first hat-trick for Trabzonspor and took his league tally to seven goals and two assists in six appearances.

The win lifts Trabzonspor to fifth in the table, three points behind Galatasaray, and marks an emphatic debut for new German coach Thomas Reis, who had overseen only two training sessions with Salah before kick-off. Salah became the first player in over a decade to be directly involved in four goals against Galatasaray in a single Super Lig match, underlining his impact since leaving Liverpool on a free transfer.
