Jay Dasilva Secures Coventry City's First Premier League Win in 25 Years

Jay Dasilva’s second-half goal earned Coventry City a historic 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest, ending a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory and delivering Frank Lampard’s side their first top-flight win since April 2001.

Dasilva broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, finishing from the left side of the box after Carl Rushworth’s long ball picked him out. It was Coventry’s first Premier League goal since Mustapha Hadji scored against Aston Villa on 5 May 2001, and it proved enough for a landmark three points.

Nottingham Forest dominated possession for long periods but struggled to create clear chances against a compact Coventry side. The visitors spent much of the first half under pressure but grew into the game after the restart, with Dasilva’s strike injecting belief into Lampard’s team.

Drama arrived late when Forest substitute Igor Jesus thought he had secured a point in the 86th minute, only for VAR to rule out the goal for a foul on Coventry’s Caleb Yirenkyi in the build-up. Referee Jarred Gillett reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor and disallowed the equaliser, sparking fury among the home crowd and leaving Forest searching for answers.

The result extends a poor home run for Forest, who have won just four of their last 21 Premier League home games. For Coventry, the win is a massive psychological boost after losing their first four matches without scoring; the resilience shown at the City Ground gives Lampard a vital platform to build on as they look to establish themselves in the top flight.
