Brighton & Hove Albion marked their 125th anniversary in style, stunning defending Premier League champions Arsenal 3-0 at the Amex Stadium while wearing a special one-off commemorative kit.
The Seagulls took the field in a limited-edition Nike shirt inspired by their original 1901-02 strip: a solid “Mountain Blue” polo with tonal branding, a classic collar, cream shorts and a crest underlined by a “125 YEARS” ribbon. Inside the collar, the graphic read “We are Brighton 1901-2026”. The kit was first unveiled in May 2026 in 1,901 collector box sets and was worn in competitive action for the first and only time against Arsenal, the closest home fixture to the anniversary of Brighton’s first competitive match on 21 September 1901.
On the pitch, Brighton produced a performance befitting the occasion. Pascal Gross opened the scoring in the 31st minute, Charalampos Kostoulas added a second just before half-time and Chema Andrés headed in a third in the 57th minute as the hosts dominated a disjointed Arsenal side. Mikel Arteta later admitted his team failed to get the “basics” right in a chastening defeat that ended their perfect start to the season.
The result lifted Brighton to third in the table and reinforced their status as genuine top-four contenders. For the club, the afternoon blended heritage and modern ambition: a historic kit, a landmark victory over the champions and a statement that Brighton’s rise from near-oblivion to the Premier League elite is now firmly entrenched.
