Brentford have opened talks with Kevin Schade over a new contract as they attempt to fend off reported interest from Arsenal and other clubs.

The 24-year-old Germany international remains under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2028, having joined Brentford permanently from Freiburg in 2023. However, the Bees are keen to improve his terms and extend his stay before he enters the final year of his current deal next summer.

Arsenal are reported to have made an enquiry about Schade during the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta assessed options to strengthen his left-sided attack. Brentford made it clear that they did not intend to sell, with the club believed to have rejected the prospect of even a fee exceeding the £70 million they received from Manchester United for Bryan Mbeumo.

Schade has become an increasingly important figure for Brentford since arriving from Freiburg. The forward has scored 23 goals in 117 appearances for the club and has registered two Premier League hat-tricks during his time in west London.

Brentford’s contract negotiations are designed to protect the club’s position amid growing interest. A new agreement would reward Schade’s development, raise his value and give the Bees greater control over any future approaches.

Arsenal’s interest in Schade forms part of a wider effort to add attacking depth following the departures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. The Gunners signed Christos Tzolis but are still expected to monitor options ahead of the January transfer window, with Schade and Eli Junior Kroupi reported to be among the players on their list.

For now, Brentford’s stance remains firm. The club want Schade to remain central to Keith Andrews’ plans and are working toward a long-term agreement rather than entertaining a mid-season sale.
