Arsenal have shown interest in Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, but there is no formal approach, bid or indication that Liverpool are willing to sell. The 18-year-old remains under contract until June 2028, Liverpool want to extend his deal, and there is no reported dissatisfaction from the player.
Arsenal are monitoring Ngumoha’s situation as they assess future wide-attacking options. David Ornstein has said that the Gunners “like” the teenager and that there is genuine interest, but he stressed that admiration does not mean Liverpool will entertain a sale—especially to a direct Premier League rival.
Ngumoha joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s academy in September 2024 and made his senior debut in January 2025. He has since emerged as one of the most highly regarded young attackers at Anfield, though his route to regular league minutes is complicated by Liverpool’s depth on the wings.
The claim that Ngumoha has made only one Premier League start in Liverpool’s opening four fixtures is not supported by the available reporting. He has had limited minutes recently—37 across Liverpool’s last three league games—and started the Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, but it would be misleading to state a precise early-season league-start total without an official match log.
His preferred role is on the left, where he faces competition from Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo and Victor Muñoz. He has also been used elsewhere in the attack, but that versatility reflects Liverpool’s rotation needs rather than evidence that the club have concluded he is not ready to play on the left.
Liverpool’s response to interest has been to work on a new contract. Ngumoha was able to negotiate an extended professional agreement after turning 18 in August, and some reports say a new long-term deal has been agreed in principle. However, Ornstein has said he is not aware of a completed agreement, so the most accurate position is that Liverpool want an extension but its finalisation has not been publicly confirmed.
Bayern Munich did explore a move for Ngumoha during the summer and conducted background work on a potential deal, but Liverpool were not open to selling and Bayern did not make a formal approach. RB Leipzig have also been linked with interest.
Arsenal’s reported interest is conditional on a change in circumstances—principally Ngumoha failing to establish himself in Liverpool’s first-team plans and declining to extend his contract. At present, neither condition is known to apply. Liverpool consider him part of their future, he has two years remaining on his existing contract, and no credible report suggests that a transfer is imminent.
