Leeds United climbed to third in the Premier League after producing a commanding 4–1 win over Newcastle United at Elland Road, extending their unbeaten start to the season.

Daniel Farke’s side needed patience before breaking through in the 32nd minute. Ao Tanaka’s effort took deflections off Newcastle defenders Sean Steur and Lewis Miley before looping into the net, with the goal ultimately recorded as a Miley own goal.

Leeds doubled their advantage little more than two minutes later. Dominic Calvert-Lewin rose to meet a cross, but the final touch came off Jayden Bogle, who was credited with the goal. Calvert-Lewin then added Leeds’ third in first-half stoppage time, beating Sven Botman before finishing to put the hosts firmly in control at the interval.

Noah Okafor completed the scoring for Leeds in the 59th minute, converting after Newcastle failed to deal with a long throw. Bazoumana Touré came off the bench to score a 90th-minute consolation for the visitors, but the outcome had long been beyond doubt.

The result lifted Leeds to third place on eight points after four matches, with two wins and two draws. Farke praised the overall performance but admitted frustration at conceding late, saying: “For every coach, conceding so late after such a performance is a nightmare.”

Calvert-Lewin’s display again underlined his importance to Leeds’ early-season form. Farke described the striker as being in “outstanding shape” and praised both his confidence and his wider contribution to the side’s attacking play.
