Ian Harte Backs Troy Parrott to Thrive in La Liga After Dream Start with Real Betis

Troy Parrott’s fast start to life in Spain has earned the backing of former Republic of Ireland international Ian Harte, who believes the Real Betis forward has the quality to thrive in La Liga.

Parrott joined Betis from AZ Alkmaar in August on a five-year deal and has quickly made an impression in Andalusia. The 24-year-old came off the bench to score the decisive goal in Betis’ 1–0 victory over Real Madrid before following it with another winner on his Champions League debut away to Lille.

Harte knows the demands of Spanish football well. The former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland left-back spent three years with Levante between 2004 and 2007, scoring the club’s first La Liga goal in more than four decades and later helping them return to the top flight.

Speaking about Parrott’s move, Harte described the striker as a “top, top quality player” and said the Irishman should enjoy his new surroundings in Seville. “It’s absolutely amazing and I’m sure he’ll love it in Betis,” Harte said. “It’s obviously in Seville, which is a beautiful part of the world, and hopefully he has a really good season.”

Parrott’s early goals have given Betis an immediate return on their investment and increased optimism around his role for both club and country. After proving decisive against Real Madrid and Lille, the forward will now look to turn an encouraging opening spell into a sustained contribution across La Liga and European competition.
