Premier League Matchweek 4 produced a bruising afternoon for several of the division’s leading clubs, as Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham all dropped points at home. Arsenal were the major beneficiaries, winning 2–0 at Sunderland to make it four victories from four and move three points clear at the top of the table.
Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield. Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola were unable to find a way through a disciplined visiting defence, extending Liverpool’s uneven start to the season and leaving the Reds frustrated after failing to score at home.
Chelsea also dropped points, drawing 2–2 with promoted Hull City at Stamford Bridge. Morgan Rogers gave the hosts an early lead in the seventh minute, but Mohamed Belloumi struck twice for Hull to turn the match around before João Pedro equalised in the second half. Hull remained unbeaten and climbed to third place after another impressive result.
Tottenham’s scoring problems continued in a 0–0 draw with Everton. Roberto De Zerbi’s side remain without a Premier League goal after four matches, with boos heard at full-time as Spurs again failed to turn possession into a breakthrough. Everton, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten run and took another point away from home.
Nottingham Forest claimed an important 2–1 victory at Aston Villa. Liam Delap opened the scoring shortly after half-time, Eddie Nketiah equalised for Villa in the 74th minute, and Igor Jesus headed the decisive goal in the 88th minute to give Forest their first win of the campaign.
Bournemouth and Brentford shared four goals in a 2–2 draw at the Vitality Stadium. Kevin Schade scored twice for Brentford, while Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier were on target for Bournemouth, who let a second-half lead slip.
Ipswich Town secured a dramatic 3–2 win at Crystal Palace, with Zian Flemming scoring a stoppage-time winner. Palace played much of the match with 10 men after captain Marc Guéhi was sent off, while Ipswich’s late success lifted them to nine points from four matches.
Arsenal completed the day’s action with a hard-fought victory at Sunderland. Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring in the 58th minute, and Bukayo Saka sealed the result from the penalty spot in the seventh minute of added time after David Raya had saved a penalty at the other end.
