Maresca has used Matheus Nunes at right-back, with Marc Guéhi and Rúben Dias in central defence and Joško Gvardiol on the left. Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to start in goal, while Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo and Phil Foden are competing for attacking roles behind Haaland.
United won the most recent meeting at Old Trafford 2-0, with Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu scoring in Michael Carrick’s first match in charge at the stadium. City have therefore arrived with a clear incentive to respond, although the hosts will be encouraged by their recent derby success.
The match will provide Maresca’s first major domestic test and a clearer indication of whether City’s expensive summer rebuild can deliver against elite opposition. A victory would extend their perfect start and strengthen their early position at the top of the Premier League.
