FC Barcelona have completed their summer transfer business after a major reshaping of Hansi Flick’s squad. The club have added Rodri from Manchester City, Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, goalkeeper Joan García from Espanyol, Roony Bardghji and, on deadline day, Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal. The recruitment has strengthened Barcelona’s midfield, attacking depth and goalkeeping options as the club attempts to defend its domestic titles and compete in Europe.
Rodri was the headline arrival. The Spain midfielder brings control and experience to a Barcelona midfield that has undergone significant change, although describing him as the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner should be avoided unless that award has been independently confirmed. Gordon and Adeyemi have added pace and direct running to the attack, while Jesus gives Flick another central-forward option following Robert Lewandowski’s departure at the end of his contract.
Gordon offers flexibility across the front line, but the claim that he regularly exceeds 36 km/h in Premier League matches requires a specific tracking source and has therefore been removed. With Gordon, Adeyemi, Jesus, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal available, Barcelona have greater attacking variety rather than a clearly defined striker-less system. Marcus Rashford’s loan spell has also ended, so his future should not be presented as an unresolved part of Barcelona’s current squad planning.
Barcelona also strengthened their defensive and developmental options. Joan García arrived from Espanyol for a reported €25 million, while Bardghji joined as a promising young attacker. Outgoings included Pau Víctor’s move to Braga and Álex Valle’s transfer to Como. The club also completed the sale of Héctor Fort to Real Sociedad, where he signed a contract through 2031.
The claim that Barcelona missed out on a primary defensive target named Alvarez should be removed because the player and the reported deal were not clearly identified. Likewise, the description of Ronald Araújo as having fallen down the pecking order after a mental-health break and a Champions League setback is not sufficiently supported by the available reporting. Araújo should instead be discussed only in relation to confirmed squad selection, fitness or transfer developments.
In the women’s team, Barcelona have experienced a significant change in personnel. Alexia Putellas and Mapi León joined London City Lionesses, Ona Batlle moved to Arsenal and Salma Paralluelo joined Lyon. Brazilian forward Kerolin Nicoli arrived from Manchester City in a club-record deal for the women’s section, reported at approximately €1.2 million plus variables, and is expected to help compensate for the loss of attacking quality.
Mapi León’s departure also creates a major defensive challenge, but it is inaccurate to refer to her simply as “Leon” or to suggest that the club has lost a player named “elite centre-back Leon.” Barcelona have retained a highly competitive squad, but whether it is stronger than last season remains an assessment that will depend on performances rather than transfer activity alone.
