Julian Alvarez’s future at Atletico Madrid has become increasingly uncertain after he missed training for a second consecutive day. The club said the Argentina international was suffering from an illness, although his absence has intensified speculation about a possible transfer before the deadline.

Alvarez remains determined to join Barcelona, but Atletico have made it clear that they will not negotiate with their La Liga rivals. The club’s board has publicly supported that position, saying there is “zero consideration” of selling the striker to Barcelona after accusing the Catalan club and the player’s representatives of failing to act professionally.

Barcelona have made an offer worth €100 million, reportedly payable in installments, but Atletico rejected the proposal and have continued to point to Alvarez’s €500 million release clause. The Madrid club have also insisted that the forward remains under contract until 2030.

Although Atletico do not want to sell Alvarez to Barcelona, they appear more willing to consider offers from elsewhere. Arsenal have been monitoring the situation and could provide an alternative solution, with reports suggesting that Atletico may listen to a bid of around €150 million. However, Arsenal are not currently certain that the player would accept a move to north London.

The dispute has placed further strain on Alvarez’s relationship with Diego Simeone. He was booed by sections of the Atletico support during Sunday’s 2–2 draw with Villarreal after appearing as a substitute, and the reaction has added to the pressure surrounding his situation.

For now, Alvarez’s preference remains Barcelona, but Atletico’s refusal to negotiate has made that destination increasingly unlikely. The striker must decide whether to remain in Madrid and attempt to rebuild his relationship with the club and supporters or consider Arsenal’s interest before the transfer window closes.
