Nottingham Forest have completed a landmark club-record transfer to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap on a five-year contract at the City Ground. The 23-year-old forward arrives in the East Midlands in a deal structured at an initial £45 million ($61.1 million), with performance-related add-ons taking the total potential fee up to £50 million. Forest made the former Ipswich Town attacker their primary offensive target of the summer transfer window, with manager Oliver Glasner keen to strengthen his frontline ahead of an ambitious campaign.
Delap’s arrival at Nottingham Forest marks his third club in three seasons, bringing an end to a challenging tenure at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea originally signed the forward for £30 million last summer, but he struggled to establish himself in West London, recording two goals in 41 appearances across all competitions despite finding the net in the Champions League. After being informed by Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso that he was not in his plans, Delap spent recent weeks training separately from the first-team squad, relinquished the number nine jersey to Joao Pedro, and was left out of the squad for Monday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham.
The agreement represents significant business for both clubs ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline. Chelsea secure a £20 million profit on the striker as they work to trim a 39-man senior squad. Meanwhile, Forest’s recruitment of Delap comes during a period of active squad reshaping. Having sold England midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for a club-record £116 million and allowed striker Taiwo Awoniyi to join Coventry City for £9 million, Forest have reinvested in Delap to provide high-caliber competition alongside Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.

With his medical scheduled, Delap now aims to fulfill his potential in Nottingham as Forest seek to establish themselves at the upper end of the top flight.
