FRANKFURT, Germany — Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the new head coach of the German national team, tasked with restoring the country’s winning mentality. The German soccer federation announced that Klopp has signed a contract through the 2030 World Cup, with his first game in charge set to be against the Netherlands on September 24.
Klopp’s appointment comes after Julian Nagelsmann resigned following Germany’s shock loss to Paraguay in the World Cup round of 32. The former Liverpool manager has been the preferred candidate since Nagelsmann’s resignation and has agreed to a contract that will see him lead the team through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.
