Inter Miami has officially clinched its spot in the Major League Soccer playoffs, solidifying its position as a primary contender for back-to-back league titles. While the team previously experienced a 2-0 loss against Red Bull New York, head coach Cristian ‘Kily’ Gonzalez has overseen a resurgence, guiding Miami to consecutive victories and securing at least a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Miami’s postseason spot was locked in following a decisive 2-0 win over New York City FC, featured by a Lionel Messi assist to Rodrigo De Paul alongside a goal from Germán Berterame.
At the center of Miami’s title defense is Messi’s relentless productivity, which has anchored the club’s attack throughout the regular season. The Argentine icon leads the league with 25 goals and 15 assists, making history as the first player in MLS to record 15 or more assists in three consecutive seasons. Standout performances—including a two-goal, one-assist display in a 3-1 victory over Atlanta United and a brace in a 4-0 rout of DC United—underscore his chemistry with teammates Luis Suárez and Berterame.
As the postseason approaches, Inter Miami aims to become the first club to win consecutive MLS crowns since the Los Angeles Galaxy accomplished the feat in 2011 and 2012. With momentum building under Gonzalez, Miami appears poised to overcome mid-season hurdles and mount a serious challenge for another championship trophy.
