Kwasi Sibo’s Debut in CAF Champions League: Al Swehly’s Tunisia Showdown Looms

Kwasi Sibo and Al Swehly face a high-stakes trip to Tunisia for the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie against Espérance de Tunis. Having made his competition debut in the first leg, the Ghanaian midfielder will look to help the Libyan club secure progression to the group stage.

Al Swehly’s first-leg victory in Libya, rather than a draw, has given them a narrow advantage ahead of the return encounter. Sibo started in midfield as Ayoub Ayed’s 64th-minute goal secured a 1–0 win at Misurata Stadium. Espérance, four-time African champions, must now overturn that deficit at home to keep their campaign alive.

The 28-year-old’s involvement gives him another opportunity to make an impact after missing Al Swehly’s first preliminary round matches. His debut helped the Libyan side take an important step toward qualification, but the tie remains undecided against opponents with considerable experience in the competition.

The stakes are clear: the team that wins the tie will advance to the group stage. A draw in Tunisia would be enough for Al Swehly to progress following their first-leg win. Losing the tie, however, would end their continental campaign rather than send them into a Confederation Cup playoff.

For Sibo, the return leg offers a chance to build on his debut and help Al Swehly complete a notable result against one of Africa’s established powers. For Espérance, it is an opportunity to respond to their first-leg setback and avoid an early exit. Al Swehly hold the advantage, but their place in the group stage still has to be earned.
