UEFA has imposed disciplinary sanctions on Lyon, Hajduk Split and Trabzonspor following supporter misconduct during European fixtures, with the three clubs fined a combined €216,000.
Lyon were fined €20,000 after discriminatory chants by supporters during their 3-2 Europa League victory over Crystal Palace. UEFA also ordered the partial closure of three sections of the North Stand for one UEFA match, although the sanction was suspended for a two-year probationary period.
Hajduk Split received a €96,000 fine after incidents during their 2-1 Conference League win over Ajax. UEFA imposed an €80,000 penalty for pyrotechnics and a further €16,000 for blocked public passageways. Hajduk were also ordered to play two European matches behind closed doors, with the second suspension deferred for two years.
Trabzonspor were handed the largest fine, €100,000, for pyrotechnics, a pitch invasion and damage caused by travelling supporters during their 4-2 Conference League victory over KuPS Kuopio. UEFA also banned Trabzonspor supporters from attending the club’s next away European fixture.
The decisions underline UEFA’s continued use of financial penalties and supporter restrictions in response to crowd misconduct. While the three clubs earned important results on the pitch, the disciplinary consequences will carry into their forthcoming European campaigns.
