GFA prepares Match Commissioners for 2026/27 Women’s Premier League with critical pre-season seminar

GFA prepares Match Commissioners for 2026/27 Women’s Premier League with critical pre-season seminar

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is holding a one-day seminar for Match Commissioners on Saturday, October 17, 2026, as part of its preparations for the 2026/27 Women’s Premier League. The event is taking place at the GFA Conference Room in Accra, one week before the league begins on the weekend of October 23–26.

The seminar is designed to strengthen Match Commissioners’ ability to organise and manage matches throughout the competition. It covers their duties and responsibilities, competition regulations and directives, integrity and ethical standards, safety and security procedures, match reporting, and use of the Competition Management System (CMS).

Match Commissioners from across the country are attending as part of the GFA’s wider capacity-building programme ahead of the new campaign. The 2026/27 Women’s Premier League will feature 20 clubs, split equally between the Northern and Southern Zones, and run until the weekend of April 9–12, 2027.

The seminar comes amid continuing scrutiny of football administration in Ghana. Bibiani Gold Stars chief executive Akwasi Adu said this week that none of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs had yet received the GH¢1 million financial support announced ahead of the 2026/27 season, six matches into the campaign.

The GFA had announced in August that each of the 18 Premier League clubs would receive GH¢1 million in financial support, with the package linked to its partnership with Adesa Productions Limited. However, reporting on October 16 indicated that the funds had not yet reached the clubs, creating a point of tension between the association’s planning and clubs’ operational realities.

For now, the GFA’s immediate focus is ensuring the Women’s Premier League begins with clear officiating standards and administrative procedures. The seminar is intended to reduce avoidable disruptions and reinforce accountability before the season’s opening fixtures later this month.
