Ba capped an exceptional season by defeating Navua 2-0 in the FMF Inter-District Championship final at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Sunday. The victory secured their 26th IDC title and completed a sweep of Fiji’s four major domestic competitions: the Extra Premier League, Fiji FACT, Battle of the Giants and Inter-District Championship.
The final was decided late, rather than through uninterrupted dominance. The teams were level at half-time, and Ba did not break the deadlock until the 80th minute. Etonia Dogalau then converted an 87th-minute penalty to secure the trophy, adding the decisive finishing touch to a campaign in which he also received the tournament’s Golden Ball award.
Reports conflict over the scorer of the opening goal. Fiji Sun’s standalone final report names Nabil Begg, while Oceania Football Center credits Solomon Islands defender David Supa; a separate Fiji Sun account also names Supa in its match text. The timing and circumstances are consistent—a rebound following a save by Navua goalkeeper Tevita Ravia—but the scorer should be checked against the official match record before being stated definitively.
Ba received $25,000 in prize money, with runners-up Navua earning $6,000. Their triumph also reversed the disappointment of the previous year’s IDC final, when Rewa defeated them 1-0 to end a 15-year wait for the trophy. This time, Ba finished the domestic season with every major title secured.
Thomas Dunn belongs to the opposition’s story, not Ba’s winning midfield. The Fiji international captained Navua and entered the tournament after scoring the winning goal against Vanuatu in the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup final, where he also won the men’s Golden Ball. His presence added to Navua’s credentials, but he should not be described as the architect of Ba’s victory.
The references to Georgina Batisaresare and Suva Grammar School also concern a separate sporting programme. Batisaresare’s comments about pursuing a clean sweep at the Central Rally related to school netball and preparations for the National Secondary Schools Netball Championships—not her coaching Ba’s football team.
Ba’s achievement stands on its own: a record-extending IDC title and a season encompassing all four major domestic honours. The final took place in Suva, but that venue should not obscure the identity of the winning club, which reports describe as the Western giants. Their late breakthrough against Navua brought a demanding tournament—and a remarkable domestic campaign—to a successful conclusion.
