Harry Kane Closes In on New Bayern Munich Contract After Striking Partial Agreement

Harry Kane is rapidly closing in on a long-term contract extension at Bayern Munich, having struck a partial agreement to secure his future in Germany. The 33-year-old England captain entered the final year of his existing contract at the Allianz Arena, sparking widespread interest across Europe. However, conversations between Bayern executives and Kane’s representatives—including his father and his brother Charlie—have progressed smoothly. Financial terms are now virtually finalized as Kane prepares to lock in the salary details of his renewed deal, committing his peak years to the Bundesliga giants.

This breakthrough delivers a significant blow to Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Old Trafford hierarchy, who had been actively monitoring Kane’s status ahead of a potential approach in 2027 or sooner. Kane departed Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern in 2023 in an £86 million transfer, leaving behind 213 Premier League goals—just 47 shy of Alan Shearer’s all-time competition record of 260. While surpassing Shearer’s benchmark retained obvious appeal, and additional interest emerged from FC Barcelona, Kane’s remarkable goalscoring output in Munich has solidified his desire to remain in Germany.

Since making the move to Bavaria, Kane has produced extraordinary figures, registering 152 goals in 154 appearances for Bayern Munich. His form has established him as a primary contender for the Ballon d’Or this year and the narrow favorite to claim the award in 2026. Kane recently became the fastest player in history to score 100 Bundesliga goals, hitting the century mark in just 98 appearances. His individual brilliance has made securing his long-term presence a paramount priority for the Bavarian club.

The ongoing discussions have centered on specific contractual mechanisms, including a likely release clause. Kane’s initial contract featured tiered buyout figures, set at £68.6 million (€80 million) in the first year and £55.7 million (€65 million) in the second year, neither of which was activated. Given his age, any newly inserted release clause is unlikely to be triggered in its opening season, while talks are also finalizing details surrounding a Tottenham Hotspur-specific clause.

Bayern leadership has maintained consistent optimism throughout the negotiating process. Club legend and Supervisory Board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge publicly signaled confidence in September that a positive resolution would be reached. Kane echoed that commitment on September 18, confirming his contentment in Munich and expressing gratitude for the steadfast support of the supporters while talks proceeded. With both parties aligned on key economic parameters, Kane is now poised to complete his commitment to the club.
