The International Cricket Council has officially unveiled the comprehensive match schedule for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, setting the stage for a 57-match tournament staged across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Running from October 2 to November 21 across 12 venues, the expanded 14-team competition features a grueling itinerary designed to test the world’s top cricketing nations. Action begins with a three-team Super Series in Windhoek on October 2, followed five days later by the official start of the group stage. The opening day delivers a heavyweight showdown in Cape Town, where Shubman Gill leads India against defending champions Australia in a direct rematch of the 2023 final.
Having reached the final four years ago, India’s quest to go all the way begins in Group A alongside Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, co-hosts Zimbabwe, and Qualifier A. Following their opening fixture against Australia on October 7, Gill’s side faces arch-rivals Pakistan on October 10 in Johannesburg. India then travels to Tshwane to play Afghanistan on October 14, before heading to Bloemfontein on October 17 for a meeting with Qualifier A. The team completes its five-match group slate on October 24 against co-hosts Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls.
Group B features a stacked collection of contenders, pairing New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, and Qualifier B. The qualification pathway for the next round introduces high-stakes pressure to every single fixture. The top three teams in each group automatically advance to the Super 7 phase, which runs from October 25 to November 14. They’ll be joined by the fourth-placed team that secures more points than the fourth-place finisher in the opposing group. This system ensures that contenders cannot afford a single misstep across their opening group matches.
Throughout the initial stage, the schedule features notable matchups across Southern Africa. Group fixtures include Pakistan playing Qualifier A in Bloemfontein and Zimbabwe hosting Australia in Harare on October 15. The following day sees Sri Lanka duel Bangladesh in Durban, while co-hosts South Africa tackle England in Gqeberha. As the competition progresses into the Super 7 phase in November, marquee clashes continue across venues like Paarl, Durban, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Gqeberha, with India positioned for high-profile encounters against New Zealand on November 4 in Paarl and Pakistan on November 7 in Cape Town.
With 14 nations battling across 12 host stadiums in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, the 2027 tournament represents one of the most extensive World Cups in cricket history. For Gill and his lineup, navigating Group A is the first obstacle in a demanding seven-week campaign. The schedule presents no gentle entry point, demanding elite execution from day one on the road to ultimate glory.
